Second Half Surge Helps Rangers Pull Away From Gophers
TOWSON, Md. (April 17, 2010) – Drew outscored Goucher 7-2 in the second half to seal a 12-6 Landmark Conference road victory.
Sloane Coles (The Plains Va./Foxcroft School) and
Cara Jeffries(Central Square, N.Y./Paul V More) had three goals apiece to lead the Rangers attack.
Goucher (6-8, 1-2 Landmark) would get on the scoreboard first just 1:50 into the game with a unassisted goal from Colleen Cole but the Rangers would respond by scoring four goals over the next ten minutes to capture a 4-1 lead.
Stacie Brown (Upper Marlboro, Md./Calverton School) got the Ranger offense rolling by scoring her 30th goal of the season and was credited with the assist on
Aileen Musynske's (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial) second goal of the half.
After the 4-1 scoring run by Drew (7-7, 2-1 Landmark), the Gophers would respond with four of the next five goals to even the score at five with 28:46 remaining in the game.
The Rangers offense then kicked it into high gear with the help of Coles and Jeffries. Drew would rattle off five-straight goals and go on to score seven of the last eight to blow by the Gophers. Jeffries and Coles each had two goals in the final period while goalkeeper
Rachel Hanley (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) stopped seven Goucher shots to seal the victory.
The Rangers had a season-high seven assists with four of them coming from the Rangers leading goal-scorer,
Stacie Brown. The Rangers also unleashed 36 shots, also a season-high, compared to the Gophers 17.
The Rangers will play their final two games at home beginning next Saturday when they take on Scranton at 1:00 in Ranger Stadium.
