Rangers Remain Unbeaten in Conference Play
MADISON, N.J. (April 18, 2010) – Women's Tennis got their second-straight shutout victory as they beat Catholic today, 9-0. The Rangers did not lose a single set in singles play and took two of the three doubles matches in convincing fashion.
Hayley Downing (Cliffside Park, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) continues her impressive play as she defeated Gretchen Coombs 6-1, 6-4 in number three singles. Downing now has won her last eight singles matches and improves her season record to 9-1.
Michelle Gbelama (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Central) also remained hot and won the number one singles match 6-4. She improves to 4-0 in the number one slot this season. Gbelama paired up with
Chelsea Lipp (Old Lyme Conn./Old Lyme) to beat Majorie Selinger and Allison Tontz of Catholic, 8-2. The duo now has won three-straight matches together.
Sarit Ashkenazi (Kingston, Jamaica/Immaculate Conception) won handily in number two singles, defeating Ritamarie Holded in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0. Her and Downing teamed up to win number two singles 8-2 for their fourth victory of the year.
The Rangers will go on the road for an evening match against Mount St. Mary's at 6:00 on Tuesday.
