Rangers Finally Solve Profs
MADISON, N.J. (April 3, 2010) – For the first time in three years the Rangers got the best of the Profs this afternoon with a convincing 12-7 victory. Sophomore
Aileen Musynske (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial) put together her third hat trick of the season while
Lyndsay Rossi (Pennington, N.J./Pennington School) contributed four points for the Rangers.
The Rangers (4-5) jumped all over the Profs (4-3) early and built a 4-1 lead midway through the first half. Musynke netted an unassisted goal to break the scoreless tie at the 23:38 mark and then came back three minutes later when she received a pass from
Lyndsay Fry (Mountain Lake, N.J./Morristown Beard) to put the Rangers up 2-0.
Drew netted four of the next six goals and held a 6-2 advantage at the half.
Rebecca Schild (Princeton, N.J/Princeton) picked up her the first of her two goals on the season and
Stacie Brown (Upper Marlboro, Md./Calverton) found the back of the net before the halftime horn.
Rowan would get plenty of opportunities in the second half to climb back in the game. The Profs out-shot the Rangers 16-11 and won nine of the 12 draw controls in the second half.
Rachel Hanley (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) put together another solid performance tending goal for Drew as she made 12 stops to pick up her fifth win of the season.
The Rangers distributed the ball as well as they have all season. Six of the 12 goals had assists tied to them, which is highest count all season for Drew.
The win was not only the first against Rowan in three years but also the first that didn't go into extra frames in two years. Rowan squeaked out two victories in overtime 11-10 in 2009 and 12-11 in 2008.
The Rangers will open up Landmark Conference play on Saturday when they travel to Catholic. In regular season play, the teams have split both meetings since the inception of the conference. Drew is looking to avenge its first round loss in the Landmark Conference tournament from a year ago.
