Rangers Secure No.2 Seed in LC Tourney

MADISON, N.J. (May 1, 2010)- The Drew University women's lacrosse team earned the No.2 seed in the Landmark Conference playoff tournament with a 13-9 romp over the Susquehanna Crusaders Saturday afternoon. The Rangers poured on 39 shots over two periods of play en route to their ninth victory of the season.

Sophomore attack Lyndsay Rossi (Pennington N.J./Pennington) kicked off the first period with an unassisted goal on the game's first possession. The southern junior duo of Emily Mastella (Catonsville, Md./The Institute of Notre Dame) and Sloane Coles (The Plains, Va./Foxcroft School) connected for the game's next score.

The Crusaders got on the board in the games fourth minute after Marra Landino netted a free-position shot.

The Rangers dominated the games next ten minutes, scoring four straight times featuring goals from Brook Connell (Little Silver, N.J./Red Bank Regional,) Lyndsay Fry (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Morristown Beard,) Aileen Musynske (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial,) and Rossi's second.

The Crusaders came back with two more scores by Phoebe Nicholls and Erin Dyer but the Rangers responded quickly and equalized with two goals to put Drew up 8-3 going into the half. The Rangers outshot the Crusaders 18-11 and edged Susquehanna 17-12 defensively in draw controls.

The Rangers defense faltered early in the second period. Junior midfielder Sarah Wright scored the periods first three goals in just over ten minutes of play.

After Wright's gap-closing hat-trick the Rangers offense kicked into high gear and went on their second 4-0 run of the game. Fry and Mastella both netted their second goals of the game while senior defender and Ranger Stadium regular, Elizabeth Law (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) scored in her last regular season appearance in Drew colors.

The Crusaders rallied for three more goals closing the gap to 12-9 with 3:53 left to play but Coles worked her way out of a Susquehanna sandwich to find Jefferies lurking ready to score her second of the day.

The Rangers' defense dominated and Drew held possession for the majority of the games final minutes squashing any Crusader hopes for a comeback.

Despite the Rangers' insistent attack, freshman Emily Sankaitis made 20 saves in the net for the Crusaders. Dyer and Wright both finished with three goals for Susquehanna while sophomore attack Ally Bauer joined the hat-trick party with three of her own.

Junior goalkeeper Rachel Hanley (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) made nine saves and earner her ninth win of the season. Coles finished her stellar afternoon with one goal and two assists. Rossi, Mastella, and Jefferies each had 2-1 performances good for three points a-piece for the Rangers.

The Rangers and will welcom Susquehanna back to Madison this Wednesday May 5, 2010 in the Landmark Conference tournament semi-final in Ranger Stadium on the campus of Drew University in Madison. Check back with www.drewrangers.com for additional information including start time.
