Rangers Sweep Player of the Week Honors
MADISON, N.J. (May 10, 2010) -
Hayley Downing (Cliffside Park, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) and
Matt Imbo (Islip, N.Y./Islip) were recognized as the Landmark Tennis Players of the Week. It marks the third time this season that the Rangers have taken both tennis awards.
Between the men's and women's team the Rangers have taken eight of the 16 awards handed out over the 2010 season.
Downing wins the award for the second time this season. She was a perfect 4-0 in singles and doubles action in the playoffs this season as she helped the team win its first Landmark Women's Tennis Championship. She secured the winning point with a 6-3, 6-2 win at fourth singles for the Rangers, which came after a win at third doubles with partner Christine Conde. She also won in singles and doubles in the semifinal round, nothing an 8-0 singles win and an 8-4 doubles victory. The two singles
Imbo is 3-0 this postseason and earned the biggest singles point of the Landmark final against Scranton to help Drew earn its third-consecutive Landmark title. The freshman rallied from a one-set deficit to earn a win at fifth singles that clinched Drew's championship victory. He bounced back to win 1-6, 7-6, 6-2 and secure the win, which came after he earned a win at third doubles with teammate
Victor Kolarov. The pair also had a doubles win in Drew's semifinal victory over Catholic, and Imbo was also leading in singles action in the semifinal but his match was left unfinished.
