Rangers Advance to Landmark Conference Championship
MADISON, N.J. (May 4, 2010) - The Women's Tennis team defeated Susquehanna 8-1 this afternoon in the Simon Forum to enter their first ever Landmark Conference Championship. It would mark the second time Drew has beaten Susquehanna this season.
The Rangers got off to a quick start, sweeping the doubles matches. the duo of
Hayley Downing (Cliffside Park, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) and
Cristine Conde (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) got an 8-4 victory in number three doubles.
With a 3-0 lead going into singles play, the Rangers were looking for for just two more victories and got them from
Vivian Peng (Piscataway, N.J./Boca Raton Community) at number one singles and
Sarit Ashkenazi (Kingston, Jamaica/Immaculate Conception) at number three singles. Ashkenazi defeated Susquehanna's Kim Rogers to send the Rangers to the championship game. Peng, the reigning conference player of the week, improved to 6-0 in singles and 6-0 in doubles on the season. Ashkenazi and Peng also paired up to win their second-straight doubles match as they beat Julia Lerner and Whitney Arcaro in number one slot.
Earlier in the afternoon Moravian defeated Scranton 5-2 to setup of the a rematch of the regular season finale where the Rangers defeated the Greyhounds 7-2 in Bethlehem, Pa. The Rangers will host Moravian this time in Madison with a time yet to be determined.
