Box Score
MADISON, N.J. (September 11, 2010) – Head Coach Christa Racine picked up her 175th career victory today as the Rangers held off the Crusaders, 2-1. Drew picked up their third-straight victory and a win in the first round of the annual Drew Fall Festival.
Allison McCord (Southhampton, N.J./Bishop Eustace) got the Rangers on the scoreboard early in the first half as Drew capitalized off its first corner kick of the game. Freshman Caroline Kuras (Allamuchy, N.J./Pope John XXIII) served up the corner that was then redirected by Christine Meconi (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) and finally put home by McCord. Normally a defender, McCord scored her first career goal to put the Rangers up 1-0.
Drew would add its final goal early in the second half when Emily Weida (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Country Day) notched her first goal of the season off a cross from Meconi . Weida received the pass at six and went to the lower right 90 to put the Rangers up for good.
The Rangers controlled the ball for most of the game and their defense would not relent. Drew would out-shoot the Crusaders 12-6 in the contest including a 7-4 advantage in the second half. Goalkeeper Kim Jaikisson (Columbia, N.J./Columbia) picked up her third victory of the season and made one save on the afternoon.
Meconi finished the game with two assists and now has four points on the year. Racine, who began her tenure at Drew in 1994, is already Drew's all-time leader in wins.
The Rangers will take on Acardia tomorrow afternoon in the late game at 2:00 PM.
