Rangers Comeback Falls One Goal Short

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. (September 18, 2010) - The Rangers came within a goal after scoring three times in the second-half but it was not enough as they suffer their third loss of the season in the 5-4 thriller. The Bulldogs improved to 5-2 on the year while the Rangers drop to 3-3.
The high scoring affair was a tale of two halves for both teams. The Bulldogs owned the first half by putting four goals up on the scoreboard. The game saw a total of 39 shots between both squads with 23 of them landing on net. In the end Drew held the advantage in shots with 24, compared to DeSales' 15. The Rangers had a season-high 17 second-half shots.
The action picked up at the 14 minute mark where three goals were scored between both teams. DeSales picked up their first two goals just 26 seconds apart from one another to take the early 2-0 lead. Drew would respond 19 seconds later with a goal from
Emily Weida (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Country Day).
Kiana Lundy played a nice through ball in which Weida was able to take three dribbles and put home the first of her two goals on the afternoon.
The Bulldogs Jenna Meaney would add two more second-half goals to make the score 4-1 going into the half.
It was the Rangers turn to open up their offense as they controlled most of the final half of play. Weida pulled the Rangers within a goal 10:23 into the half off a centering pass from
Caroline Kuras (Allamuchy, N.J./Pope John XXIII). Freshman
Liz Loiodice (Forest Hill, Md./John Carroll) would get in on the scoring action when she netted her second goal of her young career in the 67th minute to make the score, 5-3.
DeSales would add its only second-half goal with a little over 10 minutes left to play which would prove to be the difference in the game. Trailing 5-3, Drew would add its final goal of the game when Kuras got a feed from senior
Allison McCord (Southampton, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep) to get the Rangers in position to tie again.
The Rangers would get three more shots and a corner kick over the final 10 minutes of play but would have their comeback fall just short.
Women's Soccer will be on the road on Wednesday when they travel to Purchase, N.Y. to take on Manhattanville. The game is schedule for 4:00.
