Drew Brings Home Cyclone Classic Crown
Box Score
HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (September 5, 2010) - After registering her first two career points yesterday, Freshman
Caroline Kuras (Allamuchy, N.J/Pope John XXIII) got her first career goal to help give the Rangers a 1-0 victory over tournament host Centenary and their first Cyclone Classic Championship.
After playing to a scoreless tie in the first half, the Rangers held a 7-3 advantage in shots. The Centenary defense would finally slip in the 64th minute when
Courtney Carnevale (Princeton, Junction, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro) made a nice feed to Kuras who beat the goalkeeper to the far corner for the game-winner.
The Rangers would keep the pressure on and attempt to put home an insurance goal but could not connect on the 13 second-half shot attempts. For the game, Drew out-shot their opponent for the second consecutive day with a total of 20 to the Cyclones 11.
The Rangers also held the advantage on corner kicks, 8-1 with six of them coming in the second half of play.
Goalkeeper
Kim Jaikisson (Columbia, N.J./Columbia) picked up her second consecutive win and her first shutout of the young season.
After sharing the crown in 2008 with the hosts Centenary, this will mark the first time that they have took home the tournament title.
The Rangers will have the week off before hosting their Fall Festival next weekend. Alvernia, Arcadia, and Stockton will all converge in Madison beginning on Saturday, September 11. Drew will take on Alvernia at 12:00 to open up the classic.
