Meconi Propels Rangers Past Hawks

Women's Soccer Win 2011 Breast Cancer Awareness Game.
Box Score MADISON, N.J. (October 12, 2011) – A Christine Meconi (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) first half goal was enough in a 1-0 victory over SUNY-New Paltz (9-5-1) this afternoon at Ranger Stadium. The Rangers won their fourth-straight game and improve to 6-7 on the year.

The 23rd minute provided the only offense of the contest as Meconi launched a long ball from the right side of the field that tipped over Hawk goalkeeper Stephanie Vega outstretched hands.  The Rangers held a 16-10 advantage in shots while not attempting one corner the whole game.

Agata Dera (Wallington, N.J./Wallington) made her fifth start of the game and was credited with the win before leaving due to injury. Senior Jeramie Barletta (Madison, N.J./Madison) came on to make three saves in a little over 56 minutes of play.
Meconi's goal was her 23rd goal of her career moving her into eighth all-time in Ranger history behind teammate Emily Weida (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Country Day) who has 24.

The Rangers will return to Landmark Conference play on Saturday when they welcome first place Scranton in the second part of double header at 3:30 p.m. The game will be a rematch of the Landmark Conference Championship game in which the Royals edged the Rangers 2-1 in Scranton.
