Rangers Cruise in Season Opener

MADISON, N.J. (February 26, 2011) - Drew women's lacrosse opened up their 2011 spring schedule with a convincing 13-6 win over Montclair State this afternoon. Senior
Stacie Brown (Upper Marlboro, Md./The Calverton School) led the offensive explosion, recording a hat trick while dishing off two assists.
Drew (1-0) never trailed and scored the game's first two goals.
Aileen Musynske (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial) score the season first goal with one of two scores on the day just 3:19 into the game. Brown then got in on the action eight minutes later with her first of the game to make the score 2-0.
Montclair State (0-1), the defending Skyline Conference Champions, got on the board at the 15:44 mark with a goal from freshman Kelly Schoneveld. It would be the Red Hawks first of two goals in the half while the Rangers would add three more scores to take a 5-2 lead into the half.
The Rangers would blow the game wide open in the second half by scoring nine of the next 10 goals, holding a 13-3 advantage with 11:48 to play. Brown had a goal and both of her assists in the second frame.
Becca Schild (Princeton, N.J./Princeton),
Lyndsay Rossi (Pennington, N.J./Pennington School) and
Cara Jeffries (Central Square, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) each had two goals in the win.
Drew scored four of their 13 goals off free position opportunities while Montclair St. was only 2-of-7. Senior
Rachel Hanley (Randolph, N.J/Randolph) played all 60 minutes for the blue and green, registering her 22nd career victory. She made 13 saves to help the Rangers defeat Montclair for the third time in four seasons.
Sloane Coles (The Plains, Va./Foxcroft) was a force in the Ranger midfield, scooping up four ground balls and winning six draw controls for the Rangers. Cora Delfini, scored three goals for the Red Hawks on seven shots on goal.
Drew will play one more game at home on Tuesday against Adrian College at 5 p.m. before traveling to Myrtle Beach for spring break.
