Rangers Prevail in Double Overtime

MADISON, N.J. (March 1, 2011) - Women's lacrosse picked up their second win in four days with a 9-8 double overtime victory over Adrian College this evening. Senior
Brook Connell (Little Silver, N.J./Red Bank Regional) netted the game-winner 55 seconds into the final overtime period.
Drew (2-0) took control of the game early, scoring the game's first two goals.
Aileen Musynske (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial) converted on the Rangers' first free position attempt and
Lyndsay Rossi (Pennington, N.J./Pennington School) scored her third goal of the year to make the score 2-0 with 18:31 remaining in the half.
Adrian (0-2) would keep pace with Rachel Johnston scoring two of the three final first half goals. The Bulldogs would only trail 3-2 after the first 20 minutes of play, setting up for an exciting finsh to the non-confernce matchup.
The Rangers looked to pull away and opened up a three-goal lead after a goal by
Devon Affleck (Abington, Pa./Abington) and
Stacie Brown's (Upper Marlboro, Md./Calverton School) first goal of the night. The Bulldogs would come storming back, scoring four unanswered goals, with three of them coming from Amanda Lambert. Adrian would grab a 6-5 lead with 12:58 left in regulation.
Senior
Becca Schild (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) would halt the Bulldog run when she received a pass from
Cara Jeffries (Central Square, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) and found the back of the net to knot the game at six.
Both teams would trade goals in the final four minutes of play forcing a six minute overtime. Brown drew a free position opportunity early in the overtime and beat the Bulldog goaltender to give the Rangers a 8-7 lead with 4:52 remaining in the extra frame. Adrian's Amanda Lambert would respond a little over a minute later with her fourth goal of the game to tie the game for the final time. The Rangers missed on two more opportunities, having one shot go wide and another hit the crossbar in the final 12 seconds of play.
In the game's final overtime,
Rachel Hanley (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) made a key save after the draw was controlled by the Bulldogs. The Rangers then made a successful clear that set the stage for Affleck and Connell. The sophomore Affleck, squeezed a pass from behind the net to a streaking Connell who finished for the game-winning goal.
Hanley made 14 saves for the Rangers in net and picked up three ground balls in the process. Affleck finished the game with two assists and a goal while Brown and Schild had two goals apiece.
The Rangers will now head south for Myrtle Beach for two neutral site games against Lynchburg and Elizabethtown next week.
