Lord Jeffs Outlast Rangers
Box Score
MADISON, N.J. (March 18, 2011) - The visiting Amherst Lord Jeffs were able to hold off a late charge by the Rangers and came away with a 6-5 victory in Ranger Stadium. Drew's
Cara Jeffries (Central Square, N.Y./Paul V Moore) had a hand in three of the Rangers five goals finishing with two scores and an assist.
Amherst (2-1) was credited with the game's first two goals, scoring just 3:23 into the game on a Hillary Densen shot and midway through the half off a free position attempt by Elizabeth Ludlow. The Rangers got on the scoreboard with 11:03 to play when
Sloane Coles (The Plains, Va./Foxcroft) found the back of the net and beat goalie MC McClellan. Just before the half, Drew's leading scorer
Stacie Brown (Upper Marlboro, Md./The Calverton School) got in on the action, tying the game at two with 3:50 play in the first frame.
The two teams would exchange goals at the start of the second half, tying the score for the final time at three. The Lord Jeffs built a two-goal lead with two quick goals a little over a minute apart from each other. Jeffries would help the Rangers climb back into the game with an unassisted goal at the 14:37 mark to make the score 5-4.
Amherst's Natalie Dugan would then score what would prove to be the gamewinner with just under 12 minutes to go. Jeffries would respond with 3:35 left in the game for her second goal of the evening but would not be enough to overtake the Lord Jeffs. Brown would get one last opportunity off a clear with under a minute remaining but was denied for the final time by McClellan.
McClellan made only four saves on the night but none proved to be more important than shot in the closing minutes. Her counterpart
Rachel Hanley (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) made 11 saves and played all 60 minutes in net.
Drew will look to end their three-game skid when they travel to Hoboken on Wednesday for a non-conference tilt against Stevens Tech.
