MADISON, N.J. (March 26, 2011) - The women's tennis team split the singles competition, but dropped two in doubles to lose their conference opener 4-5 this afternoon.
Chelsea Lipp (Old Lyme, Conn./Old Lyme) and
Rebecca Olderman (Chesire, Conn./Hamden Hall) would get the Rangers rolling with the first win of the day,a 9-8 decision in the number three doubles.
The duo of Lipp and Olderman would send Drew (2-5, Landmark 0-1) into singles down two matches to one.
Sarit Ashkenazi (Haifa, Israel/Immaculate Conception), in the number one spot, was able to notch the score at two matches a piece with a 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 win. Goucher (4-7, Landmark 2-0) would come fighting back to collect the next three but not with ease. Number two
Sofia Madrigal(San Jose, Costa Rica/Pan-American School) would play two tight sets but to no avail fall, 7-5 and 6-4. In the number three spot,
Christiane Toma (Mexico/Colgio American de Pueblo) forced a tiebreaker set but inevitably fell 6-2, 4-6, 6-0. Lipp and
Christine Conde (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) would complete singles with two wins to cause a split, but it wasn't enough to offset the outcome of the doubles competition.
With two wins on the afternoon, Lipp remains undefeated in both singles and doubles this season.
Women's tennis returns to the courts next Saturday when the continue conference play against Juniata College. Match set for 1:00 p.m. in Madison.
