Cardinals Storm Back in Second Half, Prevent Upset

Box Score
MADISON, N.J. (April 2, 2011) – The defending Landmark Conference Champions and the current IWLCA/UnderArmour Poll #10 team in the country, Catholic University (6-2, 1-0 Landmark), scored eight second half goals to defeat the Rangers, 10-9 in Ranger Stadium this afternoon.

Drew (3-6, 0-1 Landmark) dominated the first half of play and held a 6-2 advantage at halftime. Senior Stacie Brown (Upper Marlboro, Md./Calverton School) registered her fourth hat trick of the season, surpassing Courtney Cunningham for fourth all-time on the Rangers career goal list with 182.

Brown kicked off the scoring for the Rangers just 2:58 into the game and was followed up by Becca Schild's (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) sixth goal of the spring to open up a quick 2-0 lead on the Cardinals.

Catholic got on the scoreboard at the 19:34 mark with a Kelly Ryan goal to pull the Cardinals within one. The Ranger offense then scored four of the next five goals of the first half and held a four-goal advantage going into the final 30 minutes of play. The Rangers looked liked they captured all the momentum right after Brown had an unassisted goal with just two seconds left on the clock in the first half.

The lead would not be large enough to hold off the Cardinal offense who came into today's contest averaging over 13 goals per game. Catholic's Lindsay Davenport scored three of her four goals in the second half of play while the 2009 Landmark Player of the Year, Kate Robinson, scored all four of her goals in the final 30 minutes.

The Cardinals made the score 8-7 with 14:58 to play courtesy of Davenport's third of the game. After crawling within one, the Cardinals needed little time to capture their first lead of the game. Robinson tied the game at 12:08 with her third of the afternoon and just eight seconds later Davenport followed with her fourth giving the Cardinals a 9-8 edge.

With the score 10-8 after another Robinson goal with 10:43 left to play, the Rangers would make one more push to get back in the game. Aileen Musynske (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park) found a cutting Lindsay Fry (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Morristown Beard) to get the Rangers within a goal at the 3:35 mark.

The Rangers had their final two shots of the game denied by Gabby Sena who made 10 saves on the day. Drew netminder, Rachel Hanley (Randolph, N.J./Randolph), suffered her sixth loss but made 11 saves.

The Rangers will turn around and host Muhlenberg College on Wednesday night in a non-conference match-up. Game time is set for 4:00 PM
