Box Score
MADISON, N.J. (May 4, 2011) – For the third-straight season the Rangers will make an appearance in the Landmark Conference Championship Game thanks to a 10-8 semifinal win over Scranton (10-6). The Rangers eclipsed their highest win total since the 2007 season, improving to 11-8 on the year.
The two team's offenses managed only five goals in the first 30 minutes of play until a scoring barrage in the second half. The Rangers took a 3-2 lead into the break thanks to a
Becca Schild (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) go-ahead goal with 9:33 to play in the frame.
The Rangers had trouble containing Katie Slade who notched a game-high four goals. The senior tied the game up on her second goal of the game just 2:25 into the final half of play. With the score tied at three, Drew would score six unanswered goals to help pull away from the Royals.
The run began with
Jasmine Cordi-Miller's (Whippany, N.J./Whippany Park) first goal of the season and only her second of her career. The junior defender intercepted a pass in the Royal zone and went straight to goal to spark the Rangers offense and give them the lead for good. In less than an eight minute span, the Drew lead climbed to six limiting a chance for a Scranton comeback.
Trailing 10-4 with 12:24 remaining in the game, the Royals had their comeback fall short after scoring the final four goals of the contest.
Cara Jeffries (Central Square, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) scored two of her team-high three goals during the six-goal run and finished the day with her third four-point effort in as many games. Schild contributed three points on the evening and won four draws in the Ranger midfield.
On the defensive side of the ball,
Lindsay Fry (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Morristown Beard) scooped up a team-high four ground balls while senior
Emily Mastella (Catonsville, Md../Institute of Notre Dame) won four draws and picked up two ground balls.
Catholic University defeated Goucher earlier in the day to setup the third-straight title game between the Cardinals and Rangers. The game time has been set for Saturday at 12:30 in Washington, D.C.
