Big First Half Powers Cyclones Over Rangers

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (September 2, 2011) – Centenary used three first-half goals to defeat the Rangers, 4-1, in first day of the Cyclone Classic. Sophomore Katie O'Keefe (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) netted the lone goal, late in the contest for her first of the season.

The Cyclones opened up the scoring in the 11 minute mark on the first of two goals from Caitlin Veverka. The senior came back less than a minute later to score her second off a pass from Laura Potter to give Centenary (1-0) a 2-0 advantage.

Drew (0-1) surrendered one more goal before the half when Veverka connected with Becky Camp for the third goal of the afternoon. Despite the score the Rangers were able to outshoot the Cyclones 14-11 and owned a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Earlier in the day Otterbein, ranked third in the NCSAA Division III Preseason Poll, defeated Rowan 1-0. The Rangers will face off against Otterbein at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow at Cyclone Field.
