Hawks Soar Past Rangers in Non-conference Play

Box Score NEW PALTZ, N.Y. (October 10, 2012) – The Drew women's soccer team fell victims to SUNY-New Paltz (11-2-1) this afternoon in a 2-0 loss. The Rangers slip below the .500 mark and are now 5-6-1 on the season.

The Hawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute when senior defender Emily Rokitowski headed a free kick from Gabby Martino past the keeper to the back of the net.

Martino picked up her second assist at the 86:14 mark, feeding Samantha Abravanel with a pass right in front of a wide open net to seal a 2-0 Hawk victory. Abravanel's goal marks her seventh of the season as well as her team-leading 20th point.

Senior goalkeeper Kim Jaikissoon (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) suffered the loss for the Rangers, matching Hawk netminder Stephanie Vega with four saves. Caroline Kuras led the Rangers with two shots on goal.

The Hawks held a 15-9 shot advantage on the afternoon, including a 7-2 edge in shots on net. SUNY-New Paltz ended up taking two of the game's three corner kicks.

Drew will be back on the road on Saturday when they take on first-place Scranton in a Landmark Conference match-up. The women will kick-off a Landmark doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
