Pioneers Sink Rangers in Double Overtime

Box Score MADISON, N.J. (October 17, 2012) – With just 1:33 left in the final overtime Michelle Marabondo scored her second goal of the game to lift William Paterson (7-7-2) over the Drew women's soccer team (6-7-2), by the score of 2-1 in Ranger Stadium.

Marabondo put the Pioneers on the scoreboard in the 7th minute of the game with her 20th goal of the season to make the score 1-0. Senior Erika Juricic slipped the ball that Marabondo drilled into the right side of the net. William Paterson was able to take a 10-5 lead in shots into halftime and held a 4-1 advantage in corners.

The Rangers notched the game up at one in the 41st minute on the first goal of the season by Liz Loiodice (Forest Hill, Md./John Carroll). The junior was able to settle a deflection in the box and created a one-one-on situation with her and the goalie for the game-tying score.

The two teams played scoreless soccer for nearly 70 minutes before Marabondo was able to bury her 21st goal of the year in the closing minutes of the second overtime. William Paterson finished the game with a 24-8 shot advantage and took five more corner kicks than the Rangers.

Senior Kim Jaikissoon (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) made a game-high eight saves in the loss. Pioneer netminder Mary Jane Seiler made four stops to earn the victory.

The Rangers will resume Landmark Conference play on Saturday when they welcome in Juniata to Rangers Stadium for a 1:00 p.m. bout.
