Red Hawks Soar Past Rangers in Opener

Box Score
MONTCLAIR, N.J. (February 28, 2011) – Montclair State (1-0) scored 12 of the first 15 goals to defeat the Rangers, 17-10 in the season opener for both squads. Drew (0-1) falls to the Red Hawks for the first time since 2007 despite a furious comeback in the second half of play.

The Red Hawks scored the first three goals of the contest within the first three minutes. The Rangers responded scoring two of the next three goals by seniors Yasmin Baldini (Milton, Mass./Milton) and Aileen Musynske (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial) to make the score 4-2.

In the final 21 minutes of the half, Montclair State went on a tear, scoring seven of the next eight goals. The Rangers were outshot, 18-8 in the first 30 minutes and put themselves in a 12-3 hole at halftime.

The Rangers would not go away quietly, and stage a comeback in the final half of play. Drew went on to outscore the Red Hawks seven to five and fired 19 shots at the cage. The steady and consistent offense of Montclair kept the Rangers from getting close.

Musynske finished the night with three goals and two assists while Baldini had a career-high three points with two goals and an assist. Fellow senior Lindsay Fry (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Morristown Beard) scored both of her goals in the second half on six shot attempts. Freshman Nikki Kleiman (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) was impressive in her Ranger debut scoring two goals and collecting two draw controls.

The Red Hawks were powered by Kailee Beal who netted five goals. Cora Delfini and Krissa Henderson had four goals and three goals respectively.

The Rangers will open up their home schedule on Saturday when they welcome in Haverford at 1:00 p.m. in Ranger Stadium.
