Rangers Prevail in Final Match Over Scranton

MADISON, N.J. (March 24, 2012) – The Drew women's tennis team won their first Landmark Conference match of the season over Scranton, 5-4 this afternoon. Drew (2-2, 1-0 Landmark) led 2-1 after doubles and captured three victories in singles play to hand Scranton their (4-4, 1-1 Landmark) first conference loss of the season.
 
After losing first doubles, 8-5, the Rangers captured victories in both second and third doubles. Deanna Williams (Fairfield, Calif./Gorin Tennis Academy) and Sofia Madrigal (San Jose, Costa Rica/Pan-American School) edged Eliasha Connell and Caitlin Ehly, 9-8 in number two doubles.
 
The narrow victory proved to be crucial as the Rangers went on to win the top three singles matches. Sarit Ashkenazi (Haifa, Israel/Immaculate Conception) won two-straight games after losing the first game to Sepanie Boccuzzi, 6-0 in number one singles. Junior Chelsea Lipp (Old Lyme, Conn./Old Lyme) and freshman Zoe Childs (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) helped clinch the match for the Rangers with straight-set wins at the number one and two positions.
 
The Rangers will take on Moravian on the road this Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
