WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 31, 2012) – The IWLCA 18
th ranked team in the country, Catholic (5-4, 1-0 Landmark), used a strong first half to hand Drew (5-5, 0-1 Landmark) a 19-10 loss at Cardinal Stadium this afternoon. Catholic scored five of the first six goals of the game and totaled 11 in the first half alone to pull away from the Rangers.
Seniors
Lyndsay Rossi (Pennington, N.J./Pennington School) and
Lindsay Fry (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Morristown Beard) each had a hat trick in a losing effort. Fry collected three draw controls and registered an assist on the day. Classmate
Yasmin Baldini (Milton, Mass./Milton) had her second-straight multiple goal game, totaling two in the contest.
The Cardinal attack was led by senior Mary Swarthout who had three goals and three assists to go along with a game-high nine draw controls. The Cardinals won the overall draw control battle, gathering 24 of the 31 attempted. Katie Miller recorded a game-high four goals to pace the Catholic attack.
The Rangers were outshot in the contest 42-25 and committed 17 turnovers compared to 14 by the Cardinals. Drew goalkeeper
Christiana Carlini (Amherst, N.H./Bishop Guertin) made 10 saves while her counterpart Tricia Pehnke made eight stops to earn the win.
Drew will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Collegeville, Pa. to take on Ursinus College at 7:00 p.m.
