Rangers Shut Out Cross-street Rival FDU

MADISON, N.J. (April 2, 2012) – The Drew women's tennis team improved to 4-3 on the year with a 9-0 shutout of cross-street rival Fairleigh Dickinson (1-8) this afternoon. The Rangers did not lose a single set in singles play and lost only five games in doubles.

In number one doubles Sarit Ashkenazi (Haifa, Israel/Immaculate Conception) and Sofia Madrigal (San Jose, Costa Rica/Pan-American School) teamed up for the fourth time this season and evened their record out with an 8-3 victory over Megan Scherer and Jenna Cowie. Erica Fredrickson (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Saviour) and Cristine Conde (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) did not lose a game in number three singles, shutting out Kim Martin and Lindsey Martin, 8-0.

The Rangers cruised in singles play getting wins from Chelsea Lipp (Old Lyme, Conn./Old Lyme), Ashkenazi, Madrigal, Deanna Williams (Fairfield, Calif./Gorin Tennis Academy), Fredrickson and Conde. Ashkenazi now leads the Rangers with four wins on the season in singles play.

Drew will return to Landmark Conference play on Saturday when they travel to Huntingdon, Pa. for a match with Juniata at 1:00 p.m.
