MADISON, N.J. (April 21, 2012) – The Rangers failed to secure the top spot in the Landmark Conference playoffs with a 5-4 loss at home to Susquehanna (9-5, 4-2 Landmark). The loss creates a three-way tie for the top spot in the league and drops the Rangers to 8-4 on the season and 4-2 in league play.
The Crusaders grabbed the early momentum winning number one and two doubles.
Sarit Ashkenazi (Haifa, Israel/Immaculate Conception) and
Cristine Conde (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) registered the only Drew victory in doubles play at the number three position.
Only needing a split of singles action, the Crusaders locked up the match with wins at the number one, four and six slots to take the match. Two of the three wins by Susquehanna went to three sets including number four singles where Abby Hess emerged victorious in a 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 win over
Sofia Madrigal (San Jose, Costa Rica/Pan-American School).
Ashkenazi,
Zoe Childs (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) and
Deanna Wiliams (Fairfield, Calif./Gorin Tennis Academy) all picked up singles wins for the Rangers in the match.
The Rangers will await playoff seeding after the final Landmark Conference match between Moravian and Juniata on Monday afternoon that will be finished after being cut short earlier this season.
