Crusaders Pull Away Late to Defeat Rangers

MADISON, N.J. (April 28, 2012) – The Rangers (8-8, 2-2 Landmark) were unable to hold off the twentieth ranked Susquehanna Crusaders (14-1, 3-1 Landmark) on Senior Day this afternoon in Ranger Stadium.  The loss drops Drew to the number three seed in the Landmark Conference playoffs, which will kick off with semifinal action this Wednesday.   Susquehanna's win secured them as the two seed, and the Rangers will have to travel out to Selinsgrove this Wednesday to face the Crusaders again.

The Rangers started strong out of the gate, battling back from a 3-1 hole to take a 7-5 lead going in to halftime.  Both teams came out firing in the second half taking turns answering each other's goals to a 10-10 tie.  The Crusaders, who had been significantly behind in the first in won draw controls and shots came back to life midway through the second half.

Drew led for most of the game until Susquehanna strung together six unanswered goals in the second half, two of which were scored under penalties.  The Drew midfield was plagued by penalties, with all five in the game being called against them.

Senior Lindsay Fry (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Morristown Beard) was forced out of the game with 3:26 to go after her second yellow card of the day.   After a nearly twelve minute scoring dry spell, Nikki Kleiman (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) was able to end the Crusaders streak with 2:29 to play in the game.   Aileen Musynske (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial) added to the last-minute effort with her only goal of the game with nineteen seconds on the clock, but it wasn't enough to dig the Rangers out of the hole.

Kleiman, a freshman, scored a season-high six goals in the losing effort, bringing her season total to a team-leading 40 goals.  Aileen Musynske's goal and two assists put her at 66 points and 29 assists for the season, also team-highs.  Lyndsay Rossi (Pennington, N.J./Pennington School) scooped up six ground balls and caused five turnovers, for 42 and 15 on the season, good for first and second respectively.

The Rangers started the day by honoring their five seniors this year: #2 Jasmine Cordi-Miller, #10 Lyndsay Rossi, #15 Yasmin Baldini, #18 Lindsay Fry, and #22 Aileen Musynske. The team will be heading into its fifth straight postseason appearance this week in their rematch against Susquehanna Wednesday.
