MADISON, N.J. (September 12, 2012) – Stevens Institute of Technology (2-1) spoiled the season opener for women's tennis with an 8-1 victory this afternoon over the Rangers. Drew (0-1) came away with its only win in a three-set thriller in number five singles.
The Ducks swept doubles play with the closest match coming at the number two position. The combination of Danielle Stewart and Julia Guiguard were able to fend off
Sarah White and
Sofia Madrigal (San Jose, Costa Rica/Pan-American School), 8-6. Drew featured three brand new doubles parings that included three freshmen.
Freshman
Kezia Santos was the only Ranger to record a victory after she outlasted Laura Tantillo, 6-4, 3-6, 12-10. Stevens took the five other singles matches in straight sets.
Today's match will be Drew's only dual match of the fall as they will compete in the ITA Regional Championships on September 22-24 and the NJAIAW Championships on October 6-7.
