Greyhounds Halt Drew’s Three-Game Win Streak

Box Score MADISON, N.J. (January 30, 2013) – The #19/23 Moravian Greyhounds (19-2, 10-Landmark) put an end to the women's basketball three-game winning streak this evening with a 66-50 win in Baldwin Gym. The Rangers fall to 8-12 on the year and slip to 4-5 in the Landmark Conference.

Freshman Courtney Stephens (Pikesville, Md./Gerstell Academy) was the only Ranger in double figures, recording her fifth double-double of the season. The first-year forward netted 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. She has led the Rangers in scoring for six of the last seven games.

The Greyhounds were powered by a trio of 16-point scorers. Starters Amanda Kreuder, Laura Jordan and Alexis Wright each had 16 points to pace the Moravian attack. Jordan, who logged 29 minutes, registered a double-double, pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds.

The first half was played at a furious pace and the back-and-forth action resulted in a two-point game at the sound of the halftime horn. Drew's only lead came with 7:47 remaining in the first frame when Becky Smith (Haverhill, Mass./Presentation of Mary Academy) converted a layup to make the score 17-15. The Rangers tied the game up two more times, but Wright made a layup as time expired to give the Greyhounds a two-point advantage at the break.

Moravian opened the second half with a 12-4 run culminating with Katie O'Rourke jumper to make the score 37-27. One final push beginning at the 12:02 mark would put the Rangers away for good, as the Greyhounds scored 12 of the game's next 14 points, opening up a 15-point lead. In total the Rangers were outscored by Moravian 41-27 over the final 20 minutes.

Freshman Erin Howard (Tolland, Conn./East Catholic) was a force on the defensive end for the Rangers, blocking six shots. The performance vaulted her to 41 blocked shots on the year which is the sixth most ever in one season by a Drew women's basketball player. She is third in the Landmark Conference with two per game.

The Rangers will hit the road on Saturday and face another ranked conference opponent in Catholic. The Cardinals are ranked 13th in both the D3Hoops.com Poll and the USA Today Top 25 Coaches Poll. The women will begin a women's/men doubleheader at 4:00 p.m.
