Rangers Erase Second Half Deficit, Dominate OT

Box Score SELINSGROVE, Pa. (January 5, 2012) – The Drew women's basketball team captured its first Landmark Conference win of the season with a 62-52 road win over Susquehanna today (5-8, 1-1 Landmark). The Rangers improve to 5-8 on the season and 1-1 in Landmark Conference play.

Freshman Erin Howard (Tolland, Conn./East Catholic) recorded her first career double-double, scoring a game-high 18 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. The first-year center scored the final two buckets in regulation to send the game into overtime.

After playing nearly 30 minutes of even basketball, Susquehanna rattled off 13-straight points beginning at the 12:56 mark to take a 47-34 lead with 10:04 left, the largest by either team. Immediately following the run by the Crusaders, the Rangers ripped off a 14-1 run and tied the game up with 4:12 remaining in the game.

The game knotted back up at 52 after a Howard jumper with 2:28 on the clock and neither team scored another point in regulation. The overtime frame proved to be all Drew. The Rangers held the Crusaders scoreless in the five-minute overtime period, outscoring Susquehanna 10-0. Senior Jennifer Mateo (Union City, N.J./Union City) scored six of her 14 points in extra frame to power the Rangers.

Senior Whitney Mackay (Suffield, Conn./Berkshire, Conn.) was 2-for-3 from beyond the arc and added 10 points and five rebounds. As a team, Drew shot a blazing 61 percent from downtown, going 8-for-13. Freshman Courtney Stephens (Pikesville, Md./Gerstell Academy) struggled from the field but matched Howard with a game-high 12 rebounds.

A pair of double-digit scorers in Jonaida Williams and Mariah Monahan paced the Susquehanna offense. Willimas netted a team-high 14 points and eight rebounds while Monahan added 13 points on 4-of-11 shooting.

The Rangers will continue Landmark Conference play on the road Wednesday when they travel to Bethlehem, Pa. to take on Moravian. The tip is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Johnston Hall.
