Box Score SCRANTON, Pa. (April 27, 2013) – The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team locked up the third seed in the upcoming Landmark Conference Playoffs with a 18-8 victory over Drew (8-9, 1-3 Landmark). The Royals improve to 9-5 and 2-2 in Landmark Conference play.
The victory sets the final pairings for the postseason. The Rangers will enter the playoffs as the fourth seed and travel to #11 Susquehanna on Wednesday. Scranton will take on defending champion and second seeded Catholic in the first round.
Sophomore
Nikki Kleiman (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) scored three times to the help pace the Rangers attack. She finishes the regular season with 83 goals, 22 assists and 105 points. Classmate
Krysta Cento (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) moved into fourth place all-time on the school's season assists list by recording two this afternoon. She now has 43 assists on the year and a total of 95 points.
For the Royals, Deanna Giorno registered a game-high seven points, scoring five times and assisting on two others. Emily Goss and Kerry Sullivan each netted four goals to pace the Scranton attack.
After the Royals scored the first goal, the Rangers rattled off the next two scores to take their only lead of the game just 5:44 into the contest. The Royals went on to score eight of the next nine goals to help them build a 10-5 halftime lead.
Drew was held to just three second half goals while the Royals found the back of the net eight more times. Scranton outshot the Rangers 35-16 on the day and scooped up 30 ground balls compared to 20 by the Rangers.
Goalkeeper
CC Carlini (Amherst, N.H./Bishop Guertin) made 12 saves in all 60 minutes of play. It was the seventh time this season she has recorded 10 or more saves.
The Rangers, who will be making their sixth-straight Landmark Conference postseason appearance, will travel to Susquehanna on Wednesday for the Landmark Conference semifinals. The game is slated to start at 3:00 p.m. in Selinsgrove, Pa.
