Rangers Fall in Landmark Bout with Royals

SCRANTON, Pa. (April 9, 2013) – The University of Scranton Royals (4-5, 2-1 Landmark) hand the Drew women's tennis team their sixth loss of the season, with an 8-1 victory this afternoon. The Rangers are still seeking their first win, falling to 0-6 on the year and 0-4 in Landmark Conference play.

The Royals swept through doubles play, taking a 3-0 lead going into singles. Senior Chelsea Lipp (Old Lyme, Conn./Old Lyme) and partner Deanna Williams (Fairfield, Calif./Gorin Tennis Academy) were edged 8-6 in first doubles.

Lipp bounced back in singles play, recording the only victory of the day for the Rangers. She defeated Devon Cohen , 6-3, 6-3 in first singles for her third win of the year.

Scranton was able to take the remaining five matches in straight sets. The win puts the Royals in sole possession of third place in the conference standings.

The women's tennis team will travel to the nation's capital on Saturday for a match with Catholic University. The match is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
