Box Score HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 25, 2013) – The Drew University women's soccer team (7-1) came away on top this evening, with a 4-3 win over Stevens (3-5) in overtime. The Rangers are riding a five-game winning streak and have won three of their four games in extra time this season.
The back-and-forth battle ended with just 46 seconds left in the first overtime. Senior
Caroline Kuras (Allamuchy, N.J./Pope John XXIII) notched the game-winner when she tucked a low shot into the right corner for the fourth Ranger score of the night. Classmate
Katie O'Keefe (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) was credited with the assist on Kuras' first goal of the season.
The score was tied on three different occasions, including twice in the first 45 minutes of play. The Rangers snatched the lead just 2:01 into the contest when senior
Liz Loiodice (Forest Hill, Md./John Carroll) scored her seventh goal of the season. She is just one goal shy of her career-high after just eight games.
The Ducks scored the next two goals less than eight minutes apart from each other beginning in the 18
th minute. Senior Becky Wos headed a Bridgette Barden pass into the back of the net, knotting the game at one. Stevens took the lead in the 26
th minute when Barden scored her second goal of the season off a throw in from the left corner.
Sophomore
Mel Santos (Iselin, N.J./John F. Kennedy Memorial) sent the two teams into the half tied at two when she intercepted a clearance attempt 20 yards outside the frame for her first score of the season. Santos picked up right where she left off midway through the second half and put the Rangers up 3-2 on her second goal of the night. The multiple-score game was the first of her career.
Stevens knotted the game up for the final time with 4:05 remaining in regulation. Barden once again had a hand in the goal, sliding a pass over to Stephanie Basile within the six-yard line for the equalizer.
The two teams fired a total of 36 shots in nearly 100 minutes of play. Stevens took the edge in the shot department, 22-14 including a 13-6 advantage in the second half.
Senior
Agata Dera (Wallington, N.J. Wallington) saw her first action of the season, playing the final 54 minutes. She made two saves and was credited with her sixth career win. Sophomore
Sara Nash (Kingston, Wash./Kingston) made two saves after playing the first 45 minutes of the game.
The Ducks had won the previous nine meetings against the Rangers including a 1-0 win as the #25 team in the country last season. The last Drew win over Stevens came on September 27, 2003, 2-1 in Hoboken, N.J.
The Rangers will hope to ride the momentum into the weekend when they open up Landmark Conference play at Catholic. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
