Box Score MADISON, N.J. (January 11, 2014) – The Drew University women's basketball team picked up its first Landmark Conference victory of the season this evening with a 62-58 victory over Susquehanna (6-6, 1-1 Landmark). The Rangers move to 8-5 overall and are now 1-1 this season against Landmark opponents.
After missing the last two games, freshman
Hannah Miller (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) had her best game of the season, leading all scorers with 26 points. Her 9-of-12 effort from the free throw line helped the Rangers seal the game down the stretch. Junior
Breana Wilson (Irvington, N.J./Berkshire) had another great all-around game, scoring 13 points and grabbing five rebounds.
After leading the majority of the first half, the Crusaders took the lead on a three-pointer by Heather Zinn just four minutes into the second frame. The Crusaders held a lead as large as large as eight with 5:31 remaining in the game. It looked as if though Susquehanna had the game in hand but the Rangers roared back with a 13-2 run.
Miller, the catalyst of the game-changing run, scored 11 of the Rangers 13 points. No three points were more important than when she came off a screen on the right wing and drilled a three-pointer to put the Rangers up 57-54 with 1:20 remaining in the game. Drew did not relinquish the lead for the rest of the game. In the closing seconds, Miller drained two free throws making it a two-possession game and clinching the Ranger victory.
Sophomore
Courtney Stephens (Pikesville, Md./Gerstell Academy) continued her dominance on the boards. She grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds and hit a clutch three-pointer late in the game. It marked the sixth time this season she has recorded double-digit rebounds. Classmate
Erin Howard (Tolland, Conn./East Catholic) swatted a game-high five shots in the win. She is now one blocked shot shy of fourth place all-time in just her second season.
For the Crusaders, Monahan was the only player in double figures, scoring 18 points on 7-of-19 shooting.
The Rangers will be home on Wednesday night when they host conference-foe Moravian at 7:00 p.m. in Baldwin Gym.
