Box Score SCRANTON, Pa. (Oct. 29, 2014) – The Drew University women's soccer team dropped its penultimate match of the season, 5-0, at The University of Scranton on Wednesday evening.
Drew (5-11, 2-4) knew going into the conference battle at Scranton, the site where it won its first Landmark Conference championship in 2013, that the result would not factor into its chances of making the league playoffs. After Saturday's conference results, it was decided that the regular season finale against Moravian College on Saturday, Nov. 1 would decide the fourth and final playoff berth. Drew must win that game, scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Ranger Stadium, while Moravian can clinch a tournament spot with a win or a tie.
The Royals (9-6-2, 4-1-1 Landmark) used three first-half goals, including one just 3:53 into the contest, to take the upper hand. Scranton added two more in the second half to defend its home turf with the shutout victory.
Drew's only shot came in the 53
rd minute when junior forward
Danielle Cowan had her attempt blocked by a Scranton defender.
With a playoff berth on the line, the Rangers will face the Greyhounds on Saturday on Diabetes Awareness Day. Drew will charge an optional admission for both soccer games that day and donate the proceeds to the American Diabetes Association in the name of Melissa and Tim Renahan.
