Rangers Rebound for 92-60 Win Over St. E's

Box Score MADISON, N.J. (November, 16, 2014) – The Drew University women's basketball team sought redemption in the consolation match of the Rose City Classic and worked at maximum efficiency to make sure they earned it. Led by a 63-percent 3-point field goal percentage from sophomore guard Hannah Miller, the Rangers defeated the St. Elizabeth College Eagles 92-60 on Sunday afternoon in Baldwin Gymnasium and Miller made an appearance on the Rose City Classic All-Tournament Team.

Freshman forward Ally Raulf's magic number was five on the day as she shot 5-of-5 from the field, snagging five rebounds and swiping five steals. Sophomore guard Courtney Trzasko hit the glass to lock in her first career double-double: 10 rebounds and 11 points.

Drew was in complete control throughout the contest. Their efforts were highlighted by the versatile play of Raulf. The rookie showcased her basketball IQ by practically running the Eagles' plays for them. She jumped in front of passes, batted away careless dribbles, and took responsibility for the Eagles' early turnover troubles.

Early on, the Eagles worked well in the paint, sending their forwards in and posting up against the Drew centers. The forwards pushed up high-arching floaters and low scoops to temporarily conquer the height of the taller Rangers.

When the Eagles did convert in the first half they did so during intricately run plays. One came on a crisp baseline pick and roll followed by an easy teardrop lay in. Plays like those kept the Eagles within shouting distance of the Rangers, at least for a while. The strategically complex offense proved too difficult to execute consistently.

Drew took an entirely different approach, driving inside but then dishing it out to the corner into the waiting arms of Miller who was all but automatic from 3-point territory.

Drew was successful even when they drove to the basket. Freshman guard Michaela Keegan euro-stepped her way in and threw one off the glass and in. The try was good but a much larger Eagle threw her to the ground. There she remained for a moment before getting to her feet, and then promptly converting the and-one attempt.

These baskets contributed to a blistering 20-2 run that propelled Drew towards a 47-27 halftime lead.

The second half was no different and the massive deficit the Eagles were buried under was left untouched. Raulf continued to stomp the paint and worked the glass en route to converting her five field goals on five tries.

Drew's participation in the Rose City Classic is over but they will return to the gym at Ranger Stadium to host Albertus Magnus College on Wednesday, November 19th at 7:00 p.m.
