Women's Soccer Ends Season in Landmark Semifinals

Box Score WASHINGTON (Nov. 4, 2014) – The fourth-seeded Drew University women's soccer team's season came to a conclusion on Tuesday afternoon with a 7-0 loss in the Landmark Conference semifinals at No. 1 The Catholic University of America on Tuesday afternoon.

The Cardinals (14-1-3) gained the advantage in the first half when Catholic's Ava Brown picked up two assists 4:32 apart. Her cross found an open Cardinal attacker in the 16th minute to give Catholic a 1-0 lead, and her long free kick in the 20th was headed in to put the home team up 2-0.

Freshman Katie Weber generated some offense early for the Rangers, taking a shot on goal in the eighth minute and forcing a save by Catholic keeper Lexi Halperin.

Catholic pulled away by scoring four goals in under three minutes between the 37th and 40th minutes and took the 6-0 lead into halftime. Before the half, sophomore Sam McFarlane and Weber placed shots on target that again made Halperin work to keep the clean sheet.

Junior goalkeeper Sara Nash entered the contest in the second half and made four saves, but conceded the Cardinals' seventh goal of the contest in the 77th minute.

Catholic advanced to the Landmark Conference championship game, aided by outshooting the Rangers 24-4 while taking four corners and not conceding one to Drew.
