Juniata Outlasts Rangers For Final Spot in Landmark Playoffs

Box Score Madison, N.J. (February 22, 2014) – The Drew University women's basketball team (13-12, 6-8) dropped a tough game to Juniata (14-11, 7-7), 51-48 in Baldwin Gym tonight on Senior Day. With the victory Juniata clinched the final spot in the Landmark Conference playoffs.

Freshman Hannah Miller (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) led the Rangers in scoring with 14 points in the loss. In 32 minutes of action Miller also grabbed three rebounds for the Rangers. Junior guard Breana Wilson (Irvington, N.J./Berkshire School (Mass.)) scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. The Ranger guard recorded her fourth double-double of the season.

The Rangers started the game on a 7-0 run over the first five minutes of the game. Juniata counted with a 7-3 run of their own cutting the Ranger lead to three, 10-7 with 11:30 left to play in the first half. Over the final 11 minutes of the half the Eagle outscored the Rangers 11-6, taking an 18-16 lead into halftime.

Juniata started the half on an 8-2 extending their lead to eight, 26-18 with 17:38 left to play. Drew steadily chipped away at the Eagle lead tying the game 32-32 with 9:37 left in the game. Juniata pulled away closing the game on an 8-1 run that proved to be too much for the Rangers to overcome. Wilson took the game's final shot from just behind the three-point line that hit the front of the rim.

The Eagles offense was paced by senior Kate McDonald. The senior forward scored 17 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for Juniata in the victory. Paige Dennison added 16 points in 29 minutes of action.

Tonight's game was the final game at Baldwin Gym for seniors Logan Cavanaugh (Rutland, Vt./Burr and Burlington), Lexie Forsell (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro) and Brianna Reich (Sea Bright, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven). The class of 2014 combined for six points, 14 rebounds and three assists.

Brianna tied a career-high with nine rebounds. She also recorded four offensive rebounds, giving her 107 for career, ranking her 15th on Drew's All-Time list.
