Rangers Control Cyclones for Second Straight Victory

Box Score Madison, N.J. (March 12, 2014) – The Drew University women's lacrosse team (2-2) defeated the Cyclones of Centenary College (1-3), 12-1 this afternoon in Ranger Stadium. Seven different Rangers scored in the victory.

Freshman Theresa Shafron (Roxbury, N.J./Roxbury) led the Rangers in scoring recording her first career hat-trick. The freshman attacker was a perfect 3-for-3 shooting on the day and added an assist in the victory. Junior Nikki Kleiman (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) added two goals and two assists for the Rangers.

Senior Jess Johnson (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Senior) got the Rangers on the board at the 27:36 mark, scoring her first of two goals on the day. Drew added two more goals in the next 26 seconds, including the first of the day for Shafron and classmate Morgan Mason (Cranford, N.J./Cranford). The Rangers scored the next four goals taking a, 7-0 lead with 15 minutes left in the first half. On their four goal run junior Krysta Cento (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) scored a goal and added two assists. Centenary scored their only goal of the game 10 seconds later, pulling within six but that's as close as they would get. Drew scored the final three goals of the first half, including two from freshman Kelly Dwyer (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes), taking a, 10-1 lead into the break.

The Rangers offense slowed in the second half playing a more ball control game. At the 17:50 mark of the second half Shafron scored her third goal of the game. Freshman Anna Fiorini (Bethel, Conn./Bethel) scored her only goal of the game with five minutes left to play.

Freshman Jadin James (Farmington, Conn./Farmington) made her second career start in goal for Drew. James allowed one goal and made two saves on the way to her first career victory.

The Rangers return to the field on Friday March 14, at 4:00 p.m. as they travel to Pennsylvania for their conference opener with Scranton.
