Box Score Madison, N.J. (March 26, 2014) – The Drew University women's lacrosse team (6-2) defeated cross-town rival FDU-Florham (3-5), 11-6 in the 16th installment of the Battle of Madison Avenue. With the victory the Rangers picked up their sixth consecutive victory.
Junior midfielder
Krysta Cento (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) paced the Ranger offense scoring four goals and dishing out four assists on the evening. Junior
Nikki Kleiman (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) scored four goals and added two assists for Drew in the victory.
The Rangers started the scoring just 30 seconds into the game when senior
Brooke Gagliano (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Twp.) found a cutting Cento for her first goal of the day. The Devils countered scoring their first goal of the game three minutes later from the stick of Caitlyn McGinley. Senior
Jess Johnson (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Senior) scored her seventh goal of the season putting the Rangers ahead 2-1 with 20:51 left to play in the half. FDU responded less than a minute later to tie the game 2-2. Drew scored the final three goals of the half, one from freshman
Charlotte Brown (Rumford, R.I./St. Mary Academy Bay View) and two more from Cento, giving them a 5-2 advantage heading into the locker room for halftime.
Drew kept the pressure on scoring the first goal of the second half from the stick of Kleiman off an assist from Cento. FDU cut the Ranger lead to just two with 23:55 left in the game. Leading 8-6 with seven minutes left to play Kleiman scored her third goal of the game to push the Rangers out ahead by three, 9-6. Cento and Kleiman each added a goal before the final whistle.
Freshman
Gianna Minogue (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) made her fourth start in goal for the Rangers this evening. Minogue played 50 minutes in between the pipes allowing five goals and making five saves.
Drew continues play on Saturday March 29 as they play in game two of a men's and women's lacrosse doubleheader at Ranger Stadium. The Rangers host defending conference champion Susquehanna at 3:00 p.m.
