Rangers Fall to Garnet in Overtime

Box Score Swarthmore, Pa. (March 8, 2014) – The Drew University women's lacrosse team (0-2), traveled to Swarthmore, Pa. this afternoon for a non-conference contest with Swarthmore College. Swarthmore scored the game-winning goal in overtime with 1:42 left to play for a, 12-11 victory.

The Ranger offense was led by Junior midfielder Krysta Cento (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) who scored five goals on the day. Cento added two assists for the Rangers in the loss. Junior midfield Nikki Kleiman (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) scored three goals and added three assists for the Rangers on the day.

Drew got the scoring started early, as Kleiman scored her first of the day just :30 seconds into the game. Cento gave the Rangers a two goal advantage just three minutes later when she scored her first of the day on a free-position attempt at the 26:06 mark. The Garnet countered the Drew hot start by scoring two goals less than two minutes apart. Cento and Kleiman each added one more goal for the Rangers before the end of the first half of play. The teams entered the halftime break tied, 4-4.

The Garnet jumped out to an early, 6-4 lead after scoring two goals in the first eight minutes of the second half. Freshman Morgan Mason (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) scored her first of the day for the Rangers, pulling Drew within one, 6-5 with 21:27 left to play. The Rangers scored the next three goals of the game behind Cento's third and fourth of the day and the second of the season for freshman Charlotte Brown (Rumford, R.I./St. Mary Academy Bay View). Swarthmore outscored Drew in the final 10 minutes, 5-3 tying the game 10-10 forcing an overtime period.

Cento scored her fifth of the day just 10 seconds into the start of the overtime period after collecting the draw control. The Garnet scored the final two goals of the period for a 12-11 victory.

Jadin James (Farmington, Conn./Farmington) made the first start of her career in goal for Drew. The freshman goalkeeper made 17 saves and allowed 12 goals playing the entire game for the Rangers.

Drew continues with their season as they head to Long Island on Tuesday March 11, for a non-conference contest with SUNY-Old
Westbury. The game will be played at St. Joseph College (L.I.) in Patchogue, N.Y. at 1:30 p.m.
