Box Score

MADISON, N.J. (Sept. 17, 2014)-- The Drew University women's tennis team (2-1) suffered their first loss of the season to in-state foe Stevens Institute of Technology (7-0) on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.

The Stevens Ducks quickly got out to an early 3-0 after topping the Rangers in all three doubles matches. The closest match coming from the third doubles team of Jessica Cheng and Kathryn Swenor. Jessica and Kathryn battled hard, but ultimately dropped the match 8-4.

The Ducks didn't let up as both teams headed into singles match ups. Katie Marshall battled to a 6-3 set back in her first set, but then dropped the second 6-0 to her Stevens rival. But it was the third singles match up that really drew the attention of head coach Matt Brisotti. "She is just consistent," Brisotti said of Jessica Cheng's Wednesday performance. Throughout the day, she kept her opponents on their toes. She was tenacious on the court, and worked tirelessly in her sets, but dropped both 6-4 and 6-3 on the afternoon.

As the Rangers look ahead to the weekend October 4th when they play in the NJAIAW tournament, Coach Brisotti noted "we are looking to continue to work hard and practice to play at a higher level. The team has come a long way in a short period of time, and it goes back to their thirst for wanting to improve and win."

Drew continues its fall schedule on October 4th and 5th at the NJAIAW tournament at the Drew Tennis Complex.
