WASHINGTON (Feb. 7, 2015) – Junior forward Courtney Stephens picked up her 11th career double-double with a career-high 22 points and 12 rebounds as the Drew University women's basketball team dropped a Landmark Conference contest at The Catholic University of America, 60-52, on Saturday afternoon.

Stephens obtained her career-high on 7-of-14 shooting, with two 3-pointers and a perfect 6-of-6 mark from the free throw line. Sophomore guard Hannah Miller added 14 points with the help of three triples.

The Rangers flashed their long-range shooting skills early in the contest as two 3-pointers from Miller and Stephens gave Drew the early 6-4 lead. With both teams determined to shut down the other's offense, the scoreboard was slow to hit double digits. Catholic took an 11-6 lead after a 7-0 run with 13:44 left in the half.

A combination of tough defense and timely baskets by Stephens and Miller kept the contest close through the opening half of play. Despite the Cardinals taking a seven-point lead, Drew fought back by driving into the paint and drawing fouls. Wilson and Jackson combined on four consecutive good free throws to cut the score to 17-16 with eight minutes to go before halftime. An 11-0 Catholic run ensued and was coupled with a Drew cold spell as the home squad led 31-19 at the 3:56 mark.

Jackson and Stephens helped limit the damage by making their layups during the final minutes of the half as Catholic took the 33-26 lead into intermission. Neither team boasted high shooting percentages at the break with Drew at 32 percent and Catholic at 36 percent.

Those percentages would continue to dip in the second half as both clubs kept up the defensive intensity. However, the Rangers' 10-4 run to start the half brought the score to 37-36 with 13 minutes left in the game. Stephens began the run with a put back after an offensive rebound, and ended it with four straight from the free throw line.

Catholic responded with a 10-2 run to again create the cushion at a crucial point in the game. Another 6-0 run ending at the 3:30 mark gave Catholic its biggest lead of the afternoon at 53-40, but the Rangers were not done with the fight.

Trailing by double-digits down the stretch, Drew again heated up from distance. Stephens, senior guard Breana Wilson and sophomore guard Courtney Trzasko all sank treys as the Rangers put the Cardinals on the free throw line in hopes of a comeback. Catholic was solid from the stripe and made 5-of-6 to help close out the game.

A three-pointer from Stephens with 41 seconds left cut the lead to 58-52 and gave the junior 22 points, surpassing her previous career-high of 21 set on Jan. 17 at Susquehanna University.

Catholic won the rebounding battle 49-39, while Drew was nearly perfect from the line with an 11-of-12 mark on Saturday.

Drew returns home to Baldwin Gymnasium for the first time since Jan. 24 for a Landmark Conference game against Moravian College on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 7:00 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game in support of Play4Kay and the fight against breast cancer.
