Box Score

HOBOKEN, N.J. (Sept. 23, 2015) – The Drew University women's tennis team opened up its 2015-16 dual match schedule with an 8-1 setback at Stevens Institute of Technology in non-conference action on Wednesday evening.

The Ducks (4-2) are in the midst of its Empire 8 conference schedule, while the Rangers (0-1) opened up its fall portion of the 2015 season on Wednesday. Drew enters Landmark Conference play in the spring and has two dual matches on the slate this fall.

Sophomore Andrea Defillo won Drew's lone point in the non-conference matchup, defeating her Ducks opponent at fifth singles in a three-set thriller. Defillo took the first set, 6-2, before falling in the second set, 7-6, by a tiebreaker score of 7-2. Defillo rallied in the super-breaker third set with a 10-7 triumph to get Drew on the board.

Freshman Ty Ty Nguyen made her Drew debut in the No. 2 singles position with a tight-knit, three-set loss. The Ranger rookie dropped the first set, 6-3, before bouncing back for a 7-6 win in the second after a gritty 7-5 tiebreaker. The super-breaker in the third set was tight, but Nguyen would just barely succumb in her Drew debut by a score of 10-7 in the deciding set.

The Rangers return to the courts for their final dual match of the fall at home on Friday, Oct. 2 against John Jay College at the Drew Tennis Complex.
