Montclair State Wins Dual Meet Against Drew

MONTCLAIR, N.J. -  
After opening the campaign at home, the Drew University men's and women's swimming & diving teams hit the road for the first time this season on Friday afternoon, taking part in a dual meet against Montclair State at Panzer Pool.  The Ranger women dropped a 150-87 decision, while the Hawks notched a 146-86 victory on the men's side.
 
Mal Vishwanath (Bangalore, India) paced the women's squad with a first- and a second-place finish.  She won the 200 yard freestyle by more than two seconds, posting a time of 1:57.61.  Vishwanath was second in the 100 yard freestyle with a 54.72-second clocking.  Drew's other winner on the women's side was diver Jenny Stein (Calabasas, Calif.).  In her first diving competition of the year, she recorded a score of 221.62 points.
 
Jamie Riffel (New Providence, N.J.), meanwhile, earned a pair of second-place finishes.  She registered an 11:29.84 clocking in the 1000 yard freestyle and posted a time of 5:30.12 in the 500 yard freestyle.  Eve Morel (Bourgogne, France) took second in the 100 yard butterfly (1:03.11), and Stephanie Cushman (Brick, N.J.) finished second in the 100 yard breaststroke.
 
On the men's side, Drew got a school record from Angelo Angione (Hoboken, N.J.).  In his first competition for the Rangers, he won the event with a score of 177.15 points.  Michael Ma (Redwood City, Calif.) took first in the 200 yard individual medley (2:01.31) to go along with a second-place showing in the 100 yard backstroke (55.62). 
 
In addition, the Rangers placed 1-2 in the 1000 freestyle.  Mack Fox (Randolph, N.J.) won the event in 10:36.16, while Alexandre Sannibale's (South Pasadena, Calif.) time was 10:47.63.  That was one of two second-place showings for Sannibale, who notched a 5:06.72 clocking in the 500 freestyle.  Matheus Macena (Sao Paulo, Brazil) took second in the 50 yard freestyle (22.79), and Jack Mahoney (Erie, Pa.) registered a 1:50.33 to grab second place in the 200 freestyle.
 
The Rangers return to action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. dual meet at King's.
