BOX SCORE
TOWSON, Md. (April 9, 2017) – For the second day in a row, senior
Megan Jarvis clinched a 5-4 victory at sixth singles for the Drew University women's tennis team, this time to defeat Goucher College and remain undefeated in the Landmark Conference at 4-0 on Sunday.
Â
For the Rangers (10-1 overall), it's their second straight 5-4 victory after winning at The Catholic University of America on Saturday. The winning streak for Drew now stands at 10 straight.
Â
Unlike yesterday, Drew trailed after doubles play 2-1. Senior
Jessica Cheng and freshman
Maria Navas Espinal salvaged the win at No. 2 doubles, 8-5.
Â
The Rangers took the lead once the top singles spots finished with freshman
Ashley Camel winning at No. 1 (6-3, 6-2) and sophomore
Ty Ty Witten going over at No. 2 (6-0, 6-3).
Â
The Gophers (4-8, 1-2) won the next two matches in the books at third and fourth singles, forcing the Rangers to take the fifth and sixth singles matches to win the dual match. On the court at the same time, Navas Espinal got it started by closing her match with a 6-0, 6-3 win and set the stage for Jarvis.
Â
The Drew senior again proved she has no problem with the pressure on her shoulders, breezing to a 6-1 first set win before fighting for a 7-5 victory in set two, officially handing her squad the victory on Sunday.
Â
The Rangers will look for 11 in a row on Thursday, April 13 at Rutgers-Newark at 4:00 p.m.
