MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University women's swimming & diving team won five events, but Montclair State University handed the Rangers a 137-98 setback in Drew's home opener Saturday afternoon at Kirby Pool.
Freshman
Abby Shapiro captured a pair of events to lead the Blue and Green, touching first in both the 200-freestyle (2:04.72) and the 500-freestyle (5:30.72).Â
Junior
Mal Vishwanath, the reigning Landmark Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week, registered a dominant showing in the 1,000-freestyle, winning the event by 31 seconds in 11:05.30. Freshman
Sydney Everhart added a victory in the 200-butterfly and anchored the winning 200-freestyle relay team (1:43.72) that also consisted of freshman
Mackenzie Garcia Hynds, Vishwanath, and junior
Katie Jefferson.
Jefferson also placed second in both the 200-freestyle (2:04.97) and the 200-butterfly (2:22.74), as did junior
Stephanie Cushman in the 200-IM (2:22.81) and the 200-backstroke (2:15.16), Vishwanath in the 100-freestyle (54.91), and Garcia Hynds in the 50-freestyle (25.68).
The Rangers (0-2) return to the pool in two weeks, when they host Marywood University and Susquehanna University at 1 p.m.
