Results: Men | Women

SELINSGROVE, Pa. –
On Sunday afternoon, the Drew University women's tennis team (8-6, 2-4 Landmark) snapped its three-match losing streak with an 8-1 victory over Susquehanna (3-13, 0-7 Landmark) at the Garrett Center Courts.  The Ranger men (12-5, 2-4 Landmark), meanwhile, were eliminated from Landmark Conference Tournament contention with a 5-4 loss to the River Hawks (9-5, 4-3 Landmark).

It was winner-take-all in the men's match, as the victor would earn the final place in the Landmark Tournament, while the loser would be out.

Susquehanna jumped out to an early 2-1 lead in doubles action.  Drew got a win at No. 1 doubles, as Vineet Vemulapally (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Will Morrison (San Diego, Calif.) beat Ben Ornstein and Ryan Seibert by an 8-5 count.  At No. 2 doubles, the River Hawks' Alexander Dove and Nicholas Meale defeated Bryce Kennedy (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) and Karel Raska (Morristown, N.J.) by a score of 8-6.  The Rangers' No. 3 doubles team of Geoffrey Diehl (West Hartford, Conn.) and Chris Morville (Branchville, N.J.), meanwhile, suffered an 8-3 loss to Alexander Cocolas and Ashton Collins.

Vemulapally evened the match with his 6-3, 6-2 win over Ornstein at No. 1 singles, while Siebert defeated Raska 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 4 position.  Drew again tied it with Lloyd Goldstein's (New Providence, N.J.) 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Collins in the No. 6 spot before Susquehanna regained the overall lead when Cocolas beat Kennedy, 6-4, 7-5, at No. 3 singles.  The River Hawks then clinched the victory with Dove's 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 win over Morrison in the No. 2 position.  With the result already decided, Weizer made the final score 5-4 by knocking off Meale, 6-1, 4-6, 10-7 in the No. 4 singles match.

In the women's match, Drew swept the singles competition.  The Rangers earned a pair of 6-2, 6-2 victories at both No. 1 and No. 2 singles, with Ashley Camel (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) beating Linsey Sipple in the No. 1 position and No. 2 Maria Navas Espinal (Valle, Colombia) topping Abigail Ransom.  Ty Ty Witten (New Haven, Conn.) defeated Eliza Griffin 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 3 spot, while Cristina Riccio (New Providence, N.J.) earned a 6-1, 6-3 win over Cassey Fox at No. 4 singles.  Drew's No. 5, Christina Christodoulou (Branchburg, N.J.) notched a 6-3, 6-0 triumph over Julia Spear, and Kathryn Swenor (Basking Ridge, N.J.) topped Amy Jennings 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 6 position.

Drew also won two of the three doubles matches.  Camel and Witten notched an 8-0 victory over Ransom and Griffin at No. 1 doubles, while Riccio and Christodoulou defeated Christina Rudderow and Hannah Maykut by an 8-5 count.  Susquehanna avoided a shutout when Sipple and Fox beat Navas Espinal and Xylia Bruff (South Plainfield, N.J.) in a tiebreak, 8-7 (7-3).

The Ranger men have two matches remaining, starting with a matchup at Moravian on Tuesday.  The women's squad, meanwhile, concludes the season by visiting Moravian on Thursday.
