HUNTINGDON, Pa. –
The Drew University men's and women's tennis teams began the stretch run by visiting Juniata for a key Landmark Conference match on Saturday afternoon.  The Ranger men (12-4, 2-3 Landmark) suffered their second straight conference loss, falling to the Eagles (10-6, 5-1 Landmark) by an 8-1 count at the Raffensperger Tennis Courts.  Juniata (9-8, 3-3 Landmark) also won the women's match, topping Drew (7-6, 1-4 Landmark) by a score of 6-3.

In the women's match, the Rangers got a win from Ashley Camel (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and Christina Christodoulou (Branchburg, N.J.) at No. 1 doubles.  Playing together for the first time this season, the tandem earned an 8-5 triumph over Lauren Lucas and Katherine Conklin.  Drew also recorded a pair of singles victories, as Cristina Riccio (New Providence, N.J.) notched a hard-fought 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 win over Conklin in the No. 2 position and Kathryn Swenor (Basking Ridge, N.J.) topped Savannah Bailey 7-6, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.

Ricco and Swenor teamed up at No. 2 doubles, where they were beaten, 8-6, by Bailey and Anjali Mistry.  At No. 3 doubles, Juniata's Emily Dowler and Jana Wegener defeated Xylia Bruff (South Plainfield, N.J.) and Sarah Noel Jeune (Orange, N.J.) 8-4.

Juinata secured the overall victory with four singles wins.  Lucas beat Camel 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, while Christodoulou fell to Mistry by a 6-2, 6-4 count in the No. 3 spot.  Dowler defeated Bruff 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 5 position, and the Rangers' No. 6, Jeune, fell 6-0, 6-4 to Wegener.

On the men's side, Drew's only victory came from Lloyd Goldstein (New Providence, N.J.) at No. 6 singles.  He topped Rory Donaldson by a score of 6-1, 6-1.

However, the Eagles took the remaining five singles matches and swept the doubles action.  At No. 1 singles, Vineet Vemulapally (Boca Raton, Fla.) dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision to Matyas Kohout, while No. 2 Will Morrison (San Diego, Calif.) fell to Daichi McAuliffe-Uch by a 7-6, 6-2 count.  In the No. 3 singles match, Owen Grafe had a 6-2, 2-1 lead on Geoffrey Diehl (West Hartford, Conn.) when Diehl was forced to retire with an injury.  Bryce Kennedy (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) won the first set of his No. 4 singles showdown with Dan Astel before Astel rallied for a 4-6, 6-3, 10-0 triumph.  Meanwhile, in the No. 5 position, Karel Raska (Morristown, N.J.) was beaten, 6-2, 6-2, by Jason Gerber.

At No. 1 doubles, Vemulapally and Diehl fell to Kohout and Ansel by a score of 8-1.  Kennedy and Raska dropped an 8-3 decision to Grafe and Gerber in the No. 2 position, while Juniata completed the doubles sweep with McAuliffe-Uch and Donaldson's 8-6 triumph over Morrison and Chris Morville (Branchville, N.J.).

Drew has two conference matches remaining in the regular season, starting with Sunday's 1 p.m. showdown at Susquehanna.  The Ranger men are a half-game behind the River Hawks for the final spot in the Landmark Tournament, and the loser of Sunday's match will be eliminated from postseason contention.
