MADISON, N.J. –
On Sunday afternoon, the Drew University men's and women's tennis teams concluded the opening weekend of Landmark Conference play by taking on Goucher.  Playing outdoors at the Drew Tennis Complex, the Ranger women (6-3, 1-1 Landmark) earned their first conference win of the season with a 7-2 triumph over the Gophers (6-7, 1-2 Landmark).  The men played indoors at the Simon Forum, and Goucher (16-3, 2-0 Landmark) defeated Drew (10-2, 1-1 Landmark) by a 7-2 count.

Ashley Camel (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), Ty Ty Witten (New Haven, Conn.) and Maria Navas Espinal (Valle, Colombia) led the women's team to victory.  Camel and Witten teamed up to defeat Ali Gorson-Morrow and Miranda Egan-Brooks 8-2 at No. 1 doubles.  They then each went on to win in singles.  Camel beat Gorson-Morrow 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 1 position, while No. 3 Witten topped Mackenzie Donohue by a score of 6-4, 6-1.  Meanwhile, at No. 2 singles, Navas Espinal earned a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Egan-Brooks.  She also earned a win at No. 3 doubles with Xylia Bruff (South Plainfield, N.J.).  The duo topped Morgan Hartman and Meera Balasubramanian 8-4.

At No. 4 singles, Cristina Riccio (New Providence, N.J.) recorded a 6-4, 6-1 triumph over Hartman.  Kathryn Swenor (Basking Ridge, N.J.) also won her singles match, topping Kyoko Konoshita 5-7, 6-3, 10-3 in the No. 6 position.  Goucher's only singles win came at No. 5, where Katie Mazerka beat Christina Christodoulou (Branchburg, N.J.) 6-0, 6-2.  In doubles, Riccio and Christodoulou fell to Donohue and Konoshita by an 8-4 count in the No. 2 spot.

Drew registered a pair of singles wins on the men's side.  Vineet Vemulapally (Boca Raton, Fla.) continued his winning streak in the No. 1 position with a 6-3, 6-0 triumph over Tetsuya Ota.  Karel Raska (Morristown, N.J.), meanwhile, topped Britt Shortle 6-4, 2-6, 10-7 at No. 5 singles.

In the No. 2 singles match, Geoffrey Diehl (West Hartford, Conn.) suffered a 6-0, 6-2 loss to Jack Hodges.  Michael Herman, meanwhile, defeated Will Morrison (San Diego, Calif.) by a score of 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.  Goucher's Slade Dumas topped Bryce Kennedy (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 4 position, while the No. 6 singles match between Lloyd Goldstein (New Providence, N.J.) and Josh Goldberg went to three sets before Goldberg emerged victorious, 1-6, 7-5, 10-4.

Goucher also claimed all three doubles matches, marking the first time all season the Rangers were swept in doubles play.  At No. 1 doubles, Vemulapally and Diehl fell in a tiebreak, 8-7, to Ota and Hodges.  Drew's No. 2 team of Morrison and Kennedy suffered an 8-2 defeat against Herman and Frankie Mullinix, while Elliott Diehl and Dumas recorded an 8-0 victory over Raska and Bryce Weizer (Orwigsburg, Pa.) at No. 3 doubles.
