TOWSON, Md. - The Drew University women's tennis team lost at Goucher College by a score of 6-3 in its Landmark Conference opener on Saturday. With the loss, the Rangers drop to 5-5 on the year while the Gophers improved to 5-6.
The No .2 doubles tandem of junior Ashley Camel and dreshman Marwa Elessaway combined for an 8-3 victory to avoid a doubles sweep.
The Rangers No. 1 doubles team of juniors Cristina Riccio and Christina Christodoulou and the third doubles squad of freshman Kate Gangi and junior Sarah Noel Jeune fell by a score of 8-3.
In singles action, the Rangers were victorious in two of the six flights.
Camel and Noel Jeune lost close decisions at the Nos. 1 and 6 spots, respectively, falling 6-4, 6-3.
Riccio was victorious at the No. 2 position, grinding out a win by a score of 6-4, 6-4. Elessaway gained her first Landmark Conference singles victory, winning in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4.
The Rangers continue Landmark Conference action when they visit Catholic University on Sunday at noon in Washington, D.C.
