HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The Drew University women's tennis team closed out its Spring Break trip on a high note, topping Albion College 8-1 on Friday.
The Rangers (4-4), who captured all six singles matches, won their second match in a row and finished 3-1 during the trip.
Drew opened the match by capturing two of three doubles matches. Junior
Ashley Camel and freshman
Marwa Elessaway won 8-4 at No. 2 before freshman
Kate Gangi and sophomore junior
Sarah Noel Jeune captured an 8-5 decision at No. 3.
Camel, Elessaway, and Gangi went on to win in singles play to finish as double-winners. Camel prevailed 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 while Elessaway earned an identical 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4. Gangi rallied for a 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) win at No. 5.
Also coming out on top in singles were junior
Cristina Riccio at No. 2 (6-1, 6-1), junior
Christina Christodoulou at No. 3 (6-1, 6-4), and freshman Sophia Vargas Torres at No. 6 (4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (9-7).
The Rangers take 26 days off from competition before visiting Delaware Valley University on March 27 in a non-conference match.
